Lidums Dental: Smile Makeover Care in Adelaide
A smile makeover at Lidums Dental is a planned journey to refine the appearance and function of your teeth. By combining advanced cosmetic and restorative treatments such as orthodontic alignment, whitening, veneers, crowns and implant supported restorations, we can design a balanced smile that suits your face and feels comfortable in everyday life. Our aim is to help you feel more confident about smiling, speaking and laughing.
Each smile makeover begins with a detailed assessment of your facial features, gum contours, tooth position and bite. We take time to understand what you would like to change and what is most important for your lifestyle. Using this information, our clinicians develop a tailored treatment plan that focuses on both appearance and long term dental health. Many patients report feeling more at ease in social and professional settings once their treatment is complete, enjoying a refreshed smile that looks natural and is designed specifically for them.

Smile Makeovers FAQs
Do I need to have all the treatments in a smile makeover done at the same time?
Not necessarily. While some cases benefit from completing everything in a coordinated sequence, many smile makeovers are staged across several months — particularly where implants, orthodontics, or healing time between procedures is involved. Dr Lidums will map out a clear treatment sequence from the start so you understand what happens when, and why the order matters. Staging also allows the cost to be spread across time, which many patients find more manageable.
What if I only want to change one or two things, does that still count as a smile makeover?
It depends on whether those changes interact with the rest of your teeth and bite. Sometimes a single concern — a gap, a chipped tooth, one discoloured crown — can be addressed in isolation with minimal impact on surrounding teeth. Other times, fixing one thing properly means accounting for adjacent teeth, bite alignment, or shade matching across the full smile. Dr Lidums will be upfront about whether your goal needs a simple fix or a more coordinated approach, and won’t recommend more treatment than your situation genuinely requires.
Will a smile makeover affect how I speak or eat during treatment?
Temporarily, yes. During the treatment period, particularly while wearing temporary restorations — some patients notice minor changes to how certain sounds feel or how their bite sits. This is normal and usually settles quickly as you adapt. The final restorations are carefully designed and adjusted for comfort and function before they are permanently placed, so day-to-day speaking and eating should feel natural once treatment is complete.
How do I know the final result will actually suit my face?
This is one of the most common concerns patients have before committing, and it’s one we take very seriously. Before any permanent work is done, Dr Lidums uses digital smile design and physical mock-ups to show you the proposed outcome. You can see the shape, length, and proportion of your new smile in your own mouth — not on a screen — and give feedback before anything is finalised. Changes are made at that stage, not after.
Can a smile makeover fix teeth that have been worn down from grinding?
Yes, and grinding (bruxism) is actually one of the most common underlying reasons people need a smile makeover. Worn teeth shorten the smile, flatten the biting edges, and can alter the bite and facial appearance over time. However, if grinding is still active and unaddressed, new restorations are at risk of the same damage. Dr Lidums will assess your bite as part of the planning process and, where necessary, incorporate a night guard or bite management into your treatment plan to protect the result long-term.
I've had cosmetic dental work elsewhere that I'm not happy with, can it be corrected?
Yes. Corrective cases, including failed veneers, poorly matched crowns, implant complications, or smile makeovers that didn’t meet expectations, are a significant part of what Dr Lidums treats. As a prosthodontist with 40+ years of experience, he is trained specifically in complex restorative work and has seen most scenarios. At your consultation he will assess what went wrong, what can be corrected, and give you an honest picture of what’s achievable.
